Lookin' for Mr. Bluebird…

You know Spring is coming when you see the signs:

  • Sunnier days (here in Louisiana, winter consists of COLD, GREY, and WET… sometimes all at the same time!)
  • Birds chirping in the distance
  • Plants starting to shrug off the winter brown they faded to
  • The seed catalogs start clogging up the ol’ snail mail box!

So, I’ve got gardening on my mind.? We went to Walmart today, but the pickin’s were slim, to say the least.

Of course, I already have seeds.? I always go browse the garden section of Walmart and Lowe’s… mainly for inspiration.

Well, this year, I think I have the garden mapped out (mentally), and we’re going to start our plants inside.? We haven’t done this in a while, and I’m really looking forward to it because we’re going to be recycling toilet paper holders to make our starter ‘kit’!!? How cool is that!

I got the idea here.

So, this year’s garden will have:

  • Tomatoes
  • watermelon
  • Bush Green Beans
  • Cucumbers
  • Eggplant
  • Red & Green Bell Peppers
  • Cantaloupe

and I’m considering a side garden, in a kiddie pool, called a Pizza Garden.? That’ll have:

  • Roma Tomatoes
  • Onion
  • Red & Green Peppers
  • Sweet Basil
  • Thyme
  • Oregano
  • Parsley

The site I got this idea from suggested dividing up the garden into pizza slice shapes, and plant different veggies in different ‘slices’.? I’m going to run the idea past my crew and captain, and see what they’re thoughts are.

So, besides gardening on the brain, we’re also preparing for our study of birds this month.? Nice segway into the season change, I think.? Perhaps butterflies and insects will be next month’s Science study.

DS is working on volcanoes.? Even though we did it last year, I’ve got him working more in-depth.? He will also be building and erupting his own volcano!? I don’t know who’s more excited, me or him!? There will be photos!

Well, that’s the latest from JWTCA – how are things in your area?!
