Week 4 put to bed!

Oh, this week was exciting!
We started learning about Pyotr Tchaikovsky. He had an interesting life. His music is simply beautiful. I'm a fan of the Romeo & Juliet Fantasy Overture.
Our Art study was on Ambrosius Bosschaert. I don't think the kids enjoyed his art as much as they did the previous artists, though. Number 1 Son knew it would be a difficult artist because there were no photos to be found of him, and we had a dickens of a time trying to find out the correct pronunciation of his name!
We went to our 'resident Entomologist' in search of an identity of Dead Jim, and just as Barb suggested, he was a Lubber Grasshopper! We were so excited!
The girls and I finished reading Sarah, Plain and Tall, and they actually requested the sequels. I was able to get Skylark and Caleb's Story from our local library. Yay!
I replaced Poetry with Music Study... not to be confused with Composer Study. When I was in junior high and high school, I was in Choir. I learned to read music. I enjoy music, and I thought this would work as a good subject to teach my kids. I found a website that offers free lessons for reading music.
Our first day was learning how to read the musical staff. Then, to spice things up, I put on some music so we could pick out the beat/rhythm in different types of music. Fun, fun, fun!!
The Theocratic Study is going amazingly well.
Sometimes you really don't know how much your children are learning until you just ask them questions! I know that may sound strange, and it's nothing new to homeschoolers, but I still get a grin on my face when my children can answer Bible questions will a scripture attached!
The highlight of our week, aside from the entomologist visit, was Friday. That was our Handicrafts Day. Well, it turned in to a few days, due to unforeseen occurrences.
* Number One Son made homemade dough for rolls. We ate them last night with supper. Delicious!
* Face sewed a bag, using a very simple pattern. She just loved it! She used it to carry her Bible and stuff today!
* Flower Picker got to make soap!
Note: I'm a soaper, and make it using a crockpot and lye. For her craft, though, she used Melt & Pour.
* Number One Son also got in on the sewing, and made a pillowcase! He liked it more than he would ever publicly admit. He did a great job.
Unfortunately, my only photographers were on the machine at the time, so there are no photos of this project.
