that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. – 1Tim. 2:4

Well, I should have known…

just when I thought I was so comfortable with our curriculum… BAM!

My youngest has been having trouble with math.

I wasn’t sure what the trouble was, so I set out to investigate, in a non-invasive way
– as not to alarm her.  I was able to discern that she has a weakness with subtraction.

So, we set aside her regular math for some workbook work.  She did well, and was even
exposed to 2-digit addition & subtraction.  We worked that way for about 2 weeks.

Well, yesterday, we were to start back with her regular math, and she took one look at it, and sighed.

I said, “What’s the matter?  Aren’t you ready for math?”  She looked at me with her wide eyes, and said,

Mommy, I don’t enjoy this math.  I enjoyed the other kind.  Can’t we do some more of the other one?”

My jaw dropped.  Not so much at what she said, but how she said it!  I was floored.

After that, the shock of what she said started to sink in.  All I could hear in my head was,
“Now you have to find more math workbooks and worksheets for her!”

*sigh*

I’m so glad I had a TON of superfluous workbooks just laying around.  A friend of mine owns
a thrift shop, and anything school related, she just brings it to me.

I never throw anything away –if I can’t use it, I know someone who can.

Anyway, I’m hoping that I’ll be able to get her BACK into her regular math as some point, and I’m

trying hard to not to FREAK out, but… man, oh, man — just when I thought I was done looking
for curriculum for this school year.

Ha ha!  The saga continues.

  1. I don’t think we ever finish. The only things we are all happy with is science and math. Although it took a while to find the right thing. Change is good though. It’s keeps us moms on our toes.

  4. Don’t even worry if you can’t get her back into a “regular” math book. I know many families, one from JW HS, that put together an entire math from different worksheets etc. What you should do is get a scope/sequence for her grade and then find lessons, worksheets, games, living books that cover each item. She will appreciate this extra time. I had to do this with my now 12yo it was a pain, sometimes, but he now truly enjoys math. Let me know if you need any help I could point you toward some resources.
